Emma Barnes

- Neurodistinct Consultant Psychotherapist

Hello! 🌈 As a professional counsellor and psychotherapist, I believe in establishing trust before delving into conversations. I'm not just your average therapist; I'm somewhat quirky, humorous, and blunt, offering a unique perspective shaped by my own neurodistinct journey. Diagnosed with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and ADHD, I bring a distinctive lens to understanding and reshaping narratives around neurological differences. My diverse career spans Social Services Mental Health Charities, International School Counseling, Judicial Systems, international aid agencies, and work in children's centers, offering insights from personal and professional experiences. Offering 'lived' and professional therapies for ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, sensory integration, and life transitions, I'm passionate about empowering Neurodivergents. As the founder of Untangling Minds, a social enterprise, I aim to eliminate barriers to accessing counselling. This mission stems from my belief that everyone deserves support without constraints like financial barriers, geographical distance, or mental health stigmas. Additionally, my career involves praxis in advocacy and support for the LGBTQ community, emphasizing Queer Affirmative Therapy. Accredited with the British Association of Counselors and Psychotherapists, listed with the Association of Neurodivergent Counsellors (ANDT), and a global member of the ION Institute of Neurodiversity, I also serve as an Approved Clinical Practicum Supervisor. As a distinguished member of the Indian Counselling Association and a member of the International School Counselling Association, I bring a wealth of experience and commitment to my practice. With international experience presenting at conferences and conducting Neurodiversity Affirming Workshops on a variety of topics, I foster understanding, compassion, and celebration of neurodiversity. Untangling Minds strives to break down barriers to therapy by addressing improper framing, cognitive biases, psychological tendencies, moral rationalizations, and self-interest. By untangling these complexities, I aim to create a safe and effective space for genuine healing and growth. 🌟 Feel free to connect, I'd love to hear from you! 🌈
